Pegged Photos

While I was gone for almost a week, Spanks made his own DIY on the living room wall. And yup, it was inspired by our trip to a certain resto.

By using twine, wooden pegs and a wall hooks, he made a unique photo display. it's a fresh spin on the usual framed photos tacked on the wall.

Any way you look at it, it's quite pretty.

Like banderitas for the fiesta.

Drawing on Our Bedroom Wall

The walls of the Master's bedroom (which also doubled as my home office) was looking bare. I was thinking of hanging framed photos. Or sticking on decals, which were ultra-cute but also quite pricey. So I thought of a way to combine both design ideas.

With wewilldoodle masterpieces as inspiration, I grabbed my black marker and bravely drew a tree...

with photos as leaves.

It was really fun to draw on the wall.

Tribute to Domesticity

Walang stir!

Every time Spanks is busy with work, I take over the kitchen. Just this morning, I burned 3 pieces of toast. For lunch, we had leftover sardine pasta from yesterday. And for dinner, I decided to try out this recipe from my friend Ella. It looked so simple and foolproof.

And whaddya know...it really was!

Served with healthy, full-bodied Ifugao rice, the recipe was deliciously simple. Also, simply delicious.

Dutch Treat

No, we didn't take photos because we didn't bring a camera. But yes, we enjoyed the dinner because 1) it was a new resto which Spanky discovered here, 2) we both want to go to the Netherlands someday (soon, i hope!), 3) we walked all the way from Sikatuna to Xavierville (and back), 4) the owner gave us complimentary 3 pieces of nutella and praline dutchkins (soft and chewy--my fave textures--but we liked the berry and cream dutchkins more), and 5) we got to sample a new beer.

Welcome, happy hormones.

One Rainy Wednesday Late Afternoon

Gray skies outside our window.

But we were craving for something sweet. So Spanky braved the rains to go to the nearest grocery.

And we beheld a goddess of golden, sugary goodness.

Light as a cloud. Sweet, eggy softness, enrobing a surprisingly chewy, custardy center.

After dessert, we just had to satisfy our salty tooth.

Nomnomnom

At Nomnomnom, it was only our second time to feast on the food, and our first to feast on the new interiors.

We liked this idea of photos and cute postcards clipped with wooden pegs--like freshly spun memories hung out to dry.

A lone flower tucked in a stone vase. It's the same flower used in my wedding head wreath.

We had dinner with the now towering and buffed teen-aged Gelo before we dropped him off at ABS-CBN to be interviewed at Hardball, a sports talk show at ANC.

Home Improvement

Right after we got married, I was itching to jumpstart the major makeover...not for me, but for the pad.  But Spanks and I got so busy with work and everyday concerns, and soon, I started to get comfy with the setup.  Though stuff were bought and organized bit by bit, our home basically looked not much different from a bachelor's pad.

But slowly, things started to happen.  We finally contacted a plumber, who performed bathroom magic--fixing the three leaks and the constant toilet flushing, and finally installing a heater for the shower.

Soon, the painter and his assistant came, and transformed the doors from grimy white to dark chocolate, and the walls from canary yellow to cream blush (I swear; it looked plain cream at the hardware store.  The paint turned out to have a pink tinge).  They also installed kitchen cabinets and mounted the microwave oven.

But while they were working, the entire first floor looked like a warzone.

The floor was strewn with forks and spoons, newspapers and boxes and boxes of whatever stuff they had to get out of the way in order to paint. Everything was covered in dust; a tiny rat even managed to squeeze in the door when they left it open. And the next morning, I found the intruder swimming for dear life in the bathroom pail I had so innocently filled.

And all I kept thinking was: how the hell are we going to put everything in order?? A.K.A. How can we live again? (I was being dramatic.)

Luckily, two days later, an angel came in the form of Ate Lita, who scrubbed, wiped and swept everything clean. And I swear, my cleaning attempts were nothing compared to her housekeeping prowess. I guess I just don't have the cleaning talent; the hours I spent on trying to keep the 1960s floor clean amounted to almost nothing. Ate Lita managed to make the floor shine! Shining with pride, I suppose. It was the first time I've seen the floor do such a thing.

And look--new curtains c/o Denise, Spanky's sis! Tablea brown for the living room...

And corn yellow for the bedroom. And yes, we now have a bed frame, installed just the other day.

Life is good.
